Star Search Course

A fantastic opportunity to learn how to navigate your way around the night sky using the constellations as your guide. Taught in one of our domes under the backdrop of a historic telescope and outside under the stars, you will learn how to recognise star patterns and find out more about the mythologies behind them. Spring and Autumn dates are available.

Stargazing Evenings

Come and enjoy the fabulous atmosphere that surrounds the Observatory at night and, weather permitting look through some of the largest telescopes in the country at some extraordinary night sky objects. Don't worry if it is cloudy we have a cloudy night contingency.

Explore the Moon Twilight

Wednesday 19 February 2025 - twilight workshop for ages 7-11 years. The Moon is a very interesting and mysterious object. Come and find out all about it and why sometimes you see it during the day and sometimes at night. You will make a model of the Moon, create some very messy craters, learn some fascinating facts and design and build your own Moon lander. On twilight workshops you also get to visit one of our huge telescopes.

Moon Watch

Tuesday 18th February 2025 - half day workshop for ages 7-11 years. Learn all about the magnificent Moon through fun interactive activities. Make your own Moon model and create some fantastically messy craters.

Big Telescopes for Little Astronomers

Grab your torch, gather family & friends and join us for an evening of discovery and space exploration. These events are suitable for all ages – with a family friendly atmosphere and plenty of fun to be had! Our team will show you the stars through our historic telescopes or provide a family planetarium experience if the weather is bad. Event tickets include a warm drink and a biscuit for children, and a hot drink for the grown ups.

Stargazing Evenings 2026

Stargazing Evenings at The Observatory are the best way to experience the natural wonders of the night sky. It may be the Moon or the planets (if they are visible) or it may be deeper sky objects; looking through a telescope is awe inspiring!

Valentines Sparkling Stars

Share a night under the stars with that special someone this Valentines Day. This unforgettable experience includes a glass of English sparkling wine from a local vineyard.
