Join us for an exciting astronomy evening and be immersed in the wonders of the night sky.
While we are unable to let visitors look through the telescopes at the moment, we are fortunate to have been granted funds from the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) to help us set up a camera on the back of one of our historic telescopes. This will be linked to a screen so you can enjoy looking deeper into space (weather permitting). We also intend to guide you through the constellations and point out objects that you can spot using binoculars so bring along your own binoculars to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity (sorry but we are unable to offer binoculars).
If the weather is not suitable for viewing the night sky you will have plenty of opportunity to experience the exhibition dome and the indoor exhibits plus there will be time to talk astronomy with our knowledgeable astronomy guides in the beautiful observatory domes. The planetarium show will go ahead regardless of the weather and if the sky is clear you can translate what you see in the show to the actual night sky.
Due to the COVID restrictions still being in place this will not be a free flow event around The Centre. To give you the best and safest experience possible you will be allocated to a group of no more than 18 so social distancing can be maintained. Your group will be timetabled throughout the evening so you can participate fully with the programme. It is therefore very important that you arrive at 8pm. An email will be sent to you when you make your booking with important information for you to read.
This event is not suitable for children under 12 years old and no babies can be admitted due to the limited number of spaces available.
A large hot drink is included in the admission price.
PLEASE NOTE: The evening will go ahead regardless of the weather. We cannot offer refunds if the weather is poor.
