The Centre is an ideal venue for a coach outing or group meeting placeAll ages and abilities will find something to both entertain and educate.  Science learning is not just for the young; but also for the young at heart and we aim to put the 'fun' back into science!

What is Included?

  • Access to the hands-on exhibits indoors and out (weather permitting).
  • Opportunity to visit our exhibition 'Domes of Discovery- the story of The Royal Observatory' which brings to life the 300 year history of one of the most famous scientific institutions in the world.
  • Optional private Telescope Tour, Science Show or Workshop (small additional charge). Groups and societies with a particular affiliation to astronomy or engineering may like to book an extended private tour which will include the domes which are not normally open to the public.

Special Needs Groups
1-1 FREE entry (ID required) for essential carers of registered disabled visitors.  We have disabled facilities and access to most areas; please contact us for more information.

Group organisers are welcome to a complimentary visit to The Centre to check the facilities and discuss arrangements etc- please call us in advance and we will try to ensure a member of staff is available to answer your questions.

  • There is plenty of picnic space around the site. 
  • Café serving refreshments, sandwiches & light meals etc
  • Gift shop packed with a fantastic range of pocket money science toys and souvenirs as well as science books, resources & astronomy related items.
  • We have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who will lead your booked workshops / tours etc.All have a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Certificate and many are registered as STEM Ambassadors.
  • The Centre is a NON-SMOKING site, which includes e-cigarettes
  • CCTV is operating throughout the site.

Satellite Navigations may direct you to the closed entrance of the Herstmonceux Estate if you use the postcode so set the device to Wartling Road, Wartling.
Joint Bookings with Castle
The Centre is set within the beautiful Herstmonceux Castle Estate, home of Bader International Study Centre, Queen's University (Canada). Admission to the Gardens & Grounds is via a separate entry ticket purchased from the castle entrance kiosk. The castle is not open to the public, however guided tours are conducted at an extra charge and subject to availability, but due to a busy university we strongly advise you telephone for confirmation of times before you visit (01323 833816) If you wish to visit both The Centre and the Gardens & Grounds, you can purchase a Joint ticket from both attractions.
