1pm - 4.30pm

FREE Workshop for Children and Young People aged 7-17 years.

CoderDojo is a global movement of free, volunteer-led, community-based programming clubs for young people.

Anyone aged seven to seventeen can visit a Dojo where they can learn to code, build a website, create an app or a game, and explore technology in an informal, creative, and social environment.

Within the CoderDojo Movement there is a focus on peer learning, youth mentoring and self-led learning.

We aim to help young people realise that they can build a positive future through coding and community.

Limited number of spaces available so book early to secure your place.
We have a very limited number of loan laptops available. If your ninja (youth coder) needs to use a loan laptop, please enquire when booking your place. BOOKING ESSENTIAL (see below)

We would like as many youth coders to attend as possible, so we kindly request that you only book a loan laptop if your youth coder has absolutely no other way of successfully partaking in the dojo.

Activities on offer at our first Dojo are:

An ideal way to get started with coding and have amazing fun building video games and animations, with all the help you need. If you have done some Scratch before, we’ve a great choice of projects to make; or develop your own game concept with the help of our wizard mentors.
Bring a laptop or book loan laptop.

If you already know Scratch and can type ok, now’s the time to try this powerful grown-up scripting language (and have fun too!) by creating guessing games, interactive jokes, fantasy games, noughts & crosses and lots more.
Bring a laptop or book loan laptop.

Hummingbird Robotics
We're going to create a robot from a simple paper cup! Program your robot to react when triggered and personalise it to make your robot utterly unique. We will use Makecode, a Scratch type language so you only need a little coding experience.
Bring a laptop or book loan laptop. micro:bits are provided but you are welcome to bring your own

Use the amazing Kodu environment to create a game. This super exciting environment offers picture-based programming, built by clicking to select programming blocks. This activity offers the opportunity to create either a Dodgeball style game or design and build an on-screen Treasure Hunt. Bring a laptop or book loan laptop.

Terms of participation:
Being cool means no bullying, lying or wasting people's time. Please show respect for the club’s equipment and venue buildings; and have consideration for others at all times.

Please phone the Centre on 01323 832731 to book your child/children onto the workshop making sure you let us know whether they are bringing their own laptop or they need to book a loan laptop.
