Booking now open for School Trips & Education Group visits for Academic Year 2026-27
Planning a science school trip? The Observatory Science Centre & Museum has so much to inspire, and engage young minds. Situated in Herstmonceux, East Sussex, amongst the domes of the former home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory. Our unusual site sparks excitement, before you even step through the door!
From September 2026, all daytime visits to the Observatory – taking place during term-time include two engaging education sessions (a live planetarium or science show and a hands-on workshop of your choice). There is also plenty of time to explore our 100+ indoor and outdoor interactive science exhibits, making for a truly impactful school trip for every young person.
School trips also include a free return ticket (worth £13) for every young person, a free site preview visit for teachers/group leaders and free parking. Eligible schools can also apply for our transport bursary (see below).
Transport bursaries for eligible schools
We know that coach costs may be a barrier to your school trips. From September 2026, we are pleased to offer a transport bursary to schools with over 40% of pupils in receipt of free school meals. A bursary subsidises your coach costs by £100 per visit from your school on any given day. Apply by ticking the box when making a booking enquiry.
