twilight Visit
With 3 of the telescopes restored to working order, it is now possible to
visit the science centre during the late afternoon / early evening with the aim
of viewing on a clear night. This option is available early spring, late
autumn and winter only.
The cost is £9.25 per person, minimum charge for 20.
This cost includes refreshments.
Groups arrive at the centre at a time that suits them – mid / late afternoon
and the visit will be of the following format:
- Arrive to explore the hands-on exhibits in the main corridor. The
outside exhibits may / may not be available depending on light levels.
- For interested groups, it is also possible to visit our exhibition ‘Domes
of Discovery – the story of The Royal Observatory’ which brings to life the
300 year history of one of the most famous scientific institutions in the
world.
- The group will then have a light tea, normally consisting of hot dogs or
sandwiches, fresh fruit or yoghurt, muffin and fruit squash.
- You will then be led by a member of science centre staff for an
atmospheric tour of the domes - with actual viewing if weather conditions are
favourable.
Everyone should wear warm clothing and bring a torch (preferably red light)
if they have one.
