Each year the BA
organises National Science & Engineering Week and the dates for 2008 are
7th – 16th March.
Here at the science centre we like to participate in this national event with a special programme for schools and visitor events. For KS1 & KS2 we offer launch a science show and for KS3 & KS4 we offer a workshop.
This is always a very popular time for schools to visit and places are limited so we recommend that you book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. If you are planning your own science week, please enquire as to the availability of this show or workshop at other times of the year.
This year our show will have the topical theme of ‘Weather & Climate Change’.
All of our shows are fun & educational, and they always require ‘volunteers’
from the audience!
This show last approximately 40 minutes and will take place at intervals
throughout the day in the main white geodesic dome. It is offered
alongside
the hands-on exhibits (indoors & out) and the bridge building workshop.
Cost: £5.25 per pupil
Accompanying adults are admitted free of charge at our recommended ratios

When explorer craft are sent to other planets, a ‘Lander’ is often sent to
investigate the surface. This workshop will take place throughout the day
and lasts approx 1 hour. Students will work in groups to make a ‘Lander’ from
assorted items of junk which is required to protect an uncooked egg when it is
dropped from one of the 5 metres balconies of our telescope domes. The
‘Lander’ needs to be as light as possible and the egg must not break – if it
does, you clean it up! This workshop lasts one hour and students will
participate in groups throughout the visit. It is offered alongside the
hands-on exhibits (both indoors and out).
Cost: £5.25 per pupil - Accompanying adults are admitted free of charge at our recommended ratios.
