Notes for parents

Children’s Workshops, Science Experience and Discovery Days

Events are run by experienced Science Centre staff supported by volunteers. All staff and volunteers working with children are registered as SETPOINT Ambassadors and have been checked through the Criminal Records Bureau. Groups do not exceed 24 children, with three or four staff members.  This allows each child to fully participate and ensure children are sufficiently supervised. The days will be based around hands-on project work with children making working  models, as well as engaging in set experiments.  Activities may vary slightly from the descriptions given in our Special Events brochure after assessing the ability of the group.  Some activities take place outside so we recommend practical clothing. Children aged 6-10 years will be provided with high vis sleeveless waistcoats which they should wear during the day.

PLEASE DROP OFF AND COLLECT children at the ‘Science Station’ Basement of F Dome (White Gates in Car Park).

Please allow time to register and complete a ‘Code of Conduct form.’

Please provide a packed lunch and a drink on full day events.

The Observatory aims to meet the needs of all our visitors, therefore please inform  us before the day if your child has any special needs.  Parents/Guardians do not need to accompany children but are admitted free if your child needs one-to-one support.   Adults please note this site is not suitable for the wearing of ‘heelie’ or similar roller type footwear.  Visitors wearing such items are not permitted to use rollers indoor or out and enter at their own risk.
