The main ground level corridor of the science centre is home to approx. 100 specially designed hands-on interactive exhibits, arranged in 6 main exhibition areas. These exhibits can be enjoyed at a variety of levels and no prior scientific knowledge is required. Many pupils will ‘play’ with the exhibits and not even realise that they are learning at the same time. Others, right up to KS3 & KS4 will suddenly understand a previously learnt scientific principle when they experience an exhibit in action.
4 of the areas have permanent themed exhibitions of Light & Colour, Forces & Gravity, The Earth & Beyond, and Time. The 2 remaining areas feature exhibitions which alter through the year but will be from Senses, Puzzles & Illusions, Medieval, LifeWorks or Sound. When making a booking, please enquire about the latest information on our current exhibits.

The time spent in the hands-on corridor will motivate children and stimulate their interest in science. More specifically, the exhibits provide first hand experiences (through seeing, hearing and feeling what happens) for ideas & principles that are relevant to science taught in the classroom. Each exhibit has an explainer which informs the user, not only of how to use the exhibit, but of what is happening and why.
These exhibits not only reinforce previous knowledge, but also support later work in the classroom. Teachers tell us time & time again that whatever the children experience during their visit, is remembered and used long after the day has past.
