Domes of Discovery Exhibition

One of our copper clad domes contains the permanent exhibition ‘Domes of Discovery – the story of The Royal Observatory’ which brings to life the 300 year history of one of the most famous scientific institutions in the world.

The majority of schools do not have the time to visit this area and, as a calm,  tranquil space, it is perhaps best suited to groups with a particular interest in  either astronomy or history.

The exhibition describes what the astronomers did at Herstmonceux and  Greenwich, the telescopes they used and the discoveries they made.  There are also some interactive exhibits within the dome which help you understand how telescopes work and track the stars.

There is no additional charge to visit the exhibition which is included in the basic admission price of £4.50 per pupil (accompanying adults, free of charge).
