The Observatory Science Centre is open every day from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm (last admission 4.00 pm).
During the local school holidays (Monday 7th April - Friday 18th April) we aim to offer three Telescope Tours per day at 12.00 pm, 2.00 pm and 4.00 pm.  There will also be three Fantastic Forces Science Shows per day at 11.00 am, 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm.  There is no additional charge for these shows and tours.  Special workshops and events over this period are listed below:

7th April -  Zany Zone

The Zany Zone is an area of crafty experiments.  Create colour and experiment, build a pipe cannon, and be amazed by puzzles and weird kitchen science.
Time: 11am – 4pm.
Normal admission charges apply, plus an extra £1 per child
Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

8th April - Discovery Day

The Mysterious Universe

Twilight Special 3pm – 9pm

This day we will look at how we explore the Universe using satellites and various types of telescopes.  You will learn how to operate the large telescopes on site and, if clear, use them to view the Moon, Mars and Saturn after dusk.

Aimed at children 11 years and up.  Discovery Days concentrate on single topics to give an in-depth experience of the subject.
Cost £19.95 per child per pre-booked session.  Space limited to a maximum of 24 children.

9th April - Science Experience Day

The Space Rocket 

Learn all about the mighty rockets that launch robot explorers to the planets and fly men and women into space.  Make and launch your own balloon and water powered rockets.

For children aged 6-10 years, these days are designed to be fun as well as educational. 
 Cost £19.95 per child per pre-booked session. Time: 10.30am – 4pm .

11th April - Open evening

Sessions from 10.30am – 1pm or 2pm – 4.30pm.

‘Juggling Skills’

 Learn to make your very own set of 3 juggling balls, then learn how to juggle them! 

 Cost £8.95 per session unless otherwise stated.  workshops are limited to a maximum of 24 children per session. Prices are per child pre-booked workshop session only.
If you wish to visit the Centre before or after sessions, an additional normal admission charge will apply.

16th April - Workshop

 Fantastic fun series of ‘Make n’ Take’ half-day workshops for children aged 6-10 years.  Sessions from 10.30am – 1pm or 2pm – 4.30pm.

‘Sounds like Fun’

Make your own pan pipes and ‘glove-o-phone’ in this exciting exploration of the science of sound.  You will use different types of ‘instruments’ to create your own
whacky noises.

Cost £8.95 per session unless otherwise stated.  Workshops are limited to a maximum of 24 children per session.  Prices are per child pre-booked workshop session only.
